SENIOR HIGHLIGHT:
Say HI to Nora Nelson! She is a recent graduate of Rapid City Central High School. Nora is a pretty talented lady & plans to attend Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell SD to play softball. Nora has been playing Softball since the age of 6! Nora plans to have a career in the medical field because it has always been a goal of hers to help people. Nora wants to be able to take care of people and help them in ways others cannot. One of Nora’s piece of wisdom given to her is from her teacher Kerri Stover: “believe in yourself and be confident because if you don’t believe in what you are saying or doing, no one else will.” Nora is the daugher of John and Trisha Nelson. Q. Where do you go to school?
Rapid City Central High School
Q. Please tell us about your current plans after high school. And what inspired you to choose this path?
After high school, I plan on attending Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD to play softball and study to one day have a career in the medical field. I have played softball since I was 6 years old and I cannot imagine my life without it. I am very thankful to the coaches at DWU for giving me the opportunity to play softball for 4 more years. I also chose to study to one day work in the medical field because it has always been a goal of mine to help people, but I want to be able to take care of people and help them in ways others cannot. Everyone should be able to have someone advocating for their health when they aren’t able to do it themselves so it will be an honor for me to do that for them one day.
Q. Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I am an only child and I live with my mom and dad. We have always been a tight knit family and my parents have supported me through everything. When I was in middle school my dad started having major health problems that lead to him having a double organ transplant. From the surgery, he has become blind, but he has preserved through it all. My family has grown to be very strong, but we have grown to spread love to others at all times.
Q. What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Olive Garden, Fuji, and Red Lobster
Q. If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would love to travel to Greece because I have always loved mythology and because it’s a beautiful place.
Q. What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Harry Potter, Grey’s Anatomy, Friends, Riverdale
Q. What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?
Kerri Stover- believe in yourself and be confident because if you don’t believe in what you are saying or doing, no one else will.
Q. What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Taylor Swift
Q. If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?
I would love to eat at Tally’s Silver Spoon with my teacher, Ms. Garcia, because this year she was supposed to be my guest to the Nigh of Excellence banquet for those students who earned the honor of being in the top 5% of their class and we didn’t get to go this year. That night was really important to me because I wanted to thank her for everything, she has done for me. I really feel like that night was supposed to be an honor for both of us and we didn’t get to go.
Q. What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love how the young people in the community will help their peers, classmates, families, friends, and neighbors with whatever they need help with and expect nothing back in return.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Studying to become a doctor and one day working at the hospital

Riverdale and All-American
Q. Favorite month? holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
June, Christmas, 4th of July
Q. Who inspires you to be better?
My mother because she is so strong, and I hope one day I can be as strong and as beautiful as her.
Q. If you could go back over your entire school career what is one thing you would do different?
In middle school and high school, I would have stopped caring what everyone thought of me a lot sooner. Once I stopped caring I grew into the person I was meant to be, and I am better because of it.
Q. Who or what do you miss the most right now?
My friends that I don’t see very often outside of school because I might not every be able to see them again because soon, we are all going down our own paths.
