Katie Cook

Meet Katie Cook! I had the pleasure of meeting Katie initially on the Junior Achievement Board of Directors where she currently is our Chair. Katie is an Attorney, Mom to Harper & Vance & a Wife to Trevor. They LOVE to travel & hope to do more;  they love to hike the around the Black Hills.  Katie is extremely involved in the community & definite go-getter! This amazing lady has alot to give the community & we are blessed to have her here!

Q. Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I am married to Trevor, and we have two children–Harper (almost 4) and Vance ( 14 months)

Q. Please tell us about your current career. Thing you love most about what you do.

Attorney: I love the people I work with and I love that I get to learn something new every day.

Q. What inspired you or led you to your current career?

I wanted something that challenged me intellectually. I had actually majored in Chemistry/Spanish & I loved reading and writing. Law attracted me.

Q. What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

Tally’s! (I love their Indecision Menu) & Harriet and Oak

Q. How long have you lived or worked in our community?

Born and raised, lived here through high school, came back after law school

Q. Who is the most interesting person you have met here in our community?

Too many to count; I have had the chance to meet so many people through Junior Achievement, Vote Rapid City, Leadership Rapid City, etc.

Q. If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

Supposed to be in Peru right now!

Q. What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

Love anything funny, Friends will always be a go-to for me.

Q. What advice would you give to people?

Kindness goes a long way, both personally and professionally.

Q. What is something on your bucket list?

Travel EVERYWHERE

Q. What is your go to band when you cannot decide what to listen to?

I really like classic rock, Neil Young, Eric Church, the Lumineers, anything I can sing along to

Q. What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

Armadillos: I miss Fjords… my parents used to take us there and it was just the best

Q. If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?

Always Tally’s. I would love to have lunch with Annie Leibovitz

Q. What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community? *

The proximity to the Black Hills and our Old West history

Q. Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

Happy, with a big family (more kids!), traveling and continuing to get involved in the community

Q.What advice would you give to someone who has just relocated or someone that wants to get more involved?

Q. Start small to get involved; possibly not working boards right off. Find something you are passionate about & feels less like work

Q. What is one of the top items you love about our community?

Love the Interconnected community and the gentrification of the downtown

Q. What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

Alaska, though New Zealand is a close second.

Q. If you were cast in a movie and could choose your costar, who would it be?

Ryan Reynolds for obvious reasons.

Q. Favorite month? holiday? and best single day on the calendar?

It changes! I really love the fourth of July

Q. What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

Pretty much any national park

Q. Who inspires you to be better?

My kids, my parents, my husband, my coworkers

Q. What is one or two of your favorite smells?

Lilacs and rain

Q. If a movie were made of your life, who would you want to play you?

Blake Lively, but someone much clumsier and less glamorous would be better (HAHA)

Q. Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Comfort, peace, pride
